Flip through the pages of any mainstream beauty magazine and you will find...The Rules. Lists of standards, guidelines, and instructions on how, when, and even what time of day one should wear make-up. They will tell you that you never mix dark lips with dark eyes, or to stay away from bold shadow colors, or that mascara and lip gloss is all you need for a perfect daytime look.

Obviously, they never met one of us.

One of the wonderful things about alternative fashion is that our style is so edgy and eccentric, that we can get away with some pretty wild cosmetic looks...even early in the day! Of course, if you ask me, so can most of the mundane, everyday people who buy those magazines in the first place. They just don't always have the guts to try.

But when it comes to alternative subculture fashion, one enters a realm where ordinary rules go out the window and what remains are endless possibilities for individual expression.
